At lunch on Wednesday, the girls were jabbering at each other in nonsense words. J finally lit on one she really liked and kept repeating it over and over. Then A picked it up and said it to: "babbin." I asked what it meant.
J: It's in English.
I shook my head.
J: It's in German.
Another head shake.
J: It's in Spanish.
At this point, I could still shake my head with a measure of confidence. I think I know enough Spanish to say that "babbin" is probably not in the vocabulary. But if she tries something a little more difficult next time (say, Mandarin or Swahili), I might be in trouble.
