Joe pulled up a page of "This Week in Photos" tonight because the girls asked him to. They remembered looking at it with me last night, and saw the link, recognized it and asked for it. They then proceeded to take over the computer and expertly click their way through the entire slide show, purposely choosing pix they especially liked (a dog with puppies, a camel walking under the solar eclipse, a river full of colorful lanterns in Hiroshima), and skipping ones they didn't. They're three.
I saw a headline about thieves hacking the automated tollbooth system in California and charging people extra. Those "thieves" are probably little kids playing around with their parents' computer.
Sometimes I worry a little about what kind of children our generation is raising. Especially when a three-year-old can navigate the Internet with ease.

A2 is obsessed with shoes and cell phones. Shoes are easy to get rid of. Just put them in the closet. He can't open the door yet.
Cell phones are an entirely different issue. Since he might get cancer if he handles the phone now, he's not allowed to. But the result is an intensive, almost manic effort on his part to access my cell phone or die trying.
Today, he was very cranky, sitting on the floor alternately fussing and screaming for no apparent reason. I was sitting in a chair with my phone on the arm of the chair next to me. I called him to come to me. At first he looked at me like, "You've got to be kidding!" But then, he spotted the cell phone. Immediately he stopped crying, his face lit up, and he made a mad scramble to get in my lap as quickly as possible. Once there, he dove for the phone. When I moved it out of his reach, he turned purple, screamed, and wanted down again.
Not only do my 3-year-olds understand the Internet, my 10-month-old thinks technological gizmos are the best toys of all.
